Grand Canyon, day before Thanksgiving, 2010 - Zac Johnson

My name is Zac Johnson. I'm a 22 year old senior at Arizona State University in Tempe, majoring in political science. I'll graduate in April. I'm originally from San Juan Bautista, California, which is about thirty minutes north of Monterey and an hour south of San Jose. I'm an Officer Candidate in the Marine Corps, and I'll commission as a 2nd Lieutenant of Marines in June or July. I'm passionate about football and politics, and I stay up on current events religiously. My favorite publications are Esquire, Sports Illustrated, The Atlantic and Newsweek.

I helped start a newspaper in my hometown of San Juan, population 1,800, called the San Juan Star. I worked for the paper for about eight months, during which I came to be the Senior Staff Writer and the Head of the content department, which gave me responsibility over all of the writers, photographers, and columists. I published about 30 articles in the San Juan Star over that period. I'm very interested in writing and especially journalism.
